The Opportunity:

We are looking for a talented Senior Legal Counsel to join our growing team in an exciting and dynamic role. This position will navigate and influence a wide range of legal issues, offer creative and pragmatic legal support, and partner with business leaders to solve complex commercial challenges. The role will also support the General Counsel in the transformation of the function and business strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Create & Build

  • Collaborate with relevant functions to develop, implement, and continuously improve legal and compliance frameworks, processes, procedures, and resources.
  • Support and implement a legal engagement strategy to elevate the role and value of the Legal and Compliance Team within Suntory Oceania.

Perform

  • Marketing and Innovation: Provide legal review of consumer and customer marketing activities, innovation launches, and sponsorship arrangements.
  • Intellectual Property: Work with the global intellectual property function on issues and initiatives related to the Oceania market.
  • Governance and Compliance: Support the business on areas such as competition law, employment, privacy, health and safety, and provide education to the business to enhance its legal awareness.
  • Contracts: Advise and manage commercial matters including drafting, negotiating, and supporting a variety of commercial agreements with third parties.
  • Commercial: Partner with strategic project teams to assess legal and compliance risks and provide effective mitigation strategies.

Transform

  • Act as a trusted advisor and creative problem solver in the creation of Suntory Oceania, the launch of alcoholic beverages, and the opening of our first Australian beverage facility.

Where do you fit in?

To enable you to hit the ground running, we’re looking for:

 

  • An individual that holds (or is eligible to hold) a current practicing certificate in New South Wales.
  • A minimum of 7 years of legal experience as an in-house lawyer.
  • Excellent analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills. Strong commercial and collaborative approach.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while consistently striving for better ways of working.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (New Zealand) as needed.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills with the confidence to offer strategic advice and ability to drive the best solutions.
  • The ability to not just take direction, but to challenge stakeholders when requests don’t align with business strategy.
  • The drive to find creative outcomes in a collaborative manner, come to the table with ideas, contribute to strategy, and integrate into the team.
  • A pragmatic approach, focus on risk and impact, not just legal details.
  • The ability to navigate legal complexities with a flexible, approachable and effective manner, we don’t take ourselves too seriously and neither should you.
