External Communications Manager

You are a corporate communications professional with in-house and/or  agency experience. You aspire to align your storytelling expertise with a company that has strong values and aims to grow for good. You take pride in turning complex situations into simple and relevant pieces of communication.  You are flexible but highly organized and are known for your personal tact and integrity. You are excellent in keeping your stakeholders informed and aligned.  
 

YOUR ROLE

You will be part of the External affairs and Sustainability team based in Amsterdam, whose remit includes communications, public affairs and sustainability, with a focus on the Benelux region but also Northern and Central Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
You are responsible for building and executing the company’s corporate communications strategy and activation plan to manage and increase the company’s corporate reputation and profile with key stakeholder audiences including media, government and regulatory bodies, NGOs, key opinion leaders, our partners, customers and consumers – including showcasing business performance, employer value proposition and progress against sustainability commitments.
You will create content for, and manage, our digital channels including website and LinkedIn to showcase our corporate narrative in the most effective and creative way. You will build relationships with, and sell in news stories to, national, regional and trade journalists.
In collaboration with our Corporate Sustainabilty Manager you will be responsible for the delivery of our Giving Back to Society initiatives, including our water education programme and Together for Good volunteering programme, as well as helping to communicate these initiatives. You will also support our Corporate Sustainability Manager in the collation of content for our annual sustainability reporting.
You will support the creation of a proactive public policy engagement strategy synced with the corporate comms strategy that increases the influence and profile of the company in line with its market position.
You will support in the delivery of media training to senior employees so they land our key messages and also be part of the team that responds to media issues and crisis if they arise.
Working with the compliance team, you will protect the reputation of our brands by making sure they are marketing responsibly with approvals of external content and providing regular internal updates as required. As part of this you will be responsible to monitor policy developments and stakeholder mapping providing alerts to the management team on potential issues affecting the business. 

REQUIREMENTS

•    Public Relations / Corporate Communications / Public Affairs experience.
•    You’re a storyteller, able to identify stories and write for a business audience 
•    Excellent communication skills as you’re writing for our business on our website, on social media and towards other external stakeholder groups. 
•    Ability to build great working relationships that will help you land our positive business story in media 
•    Experience of social media platforms, both from a publishing and evaluation point of view 
•    Experience in issue and crisis management, advising senior management.
•    Solid understanding of EU policy, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards, and the media landscape in the FMCG sector.
